Blessed Mother Teresa is a prime example of a radical disciple of Christ. It is reported that when many people first saw Mother Teresa, even before a word was uttered out of her mouth, they began to weep simply by being in her presence. It was so obvious that they were listening to a saint, to someone who set out to be great and allowed the Holy Spirit to take over every facet of her life. She is the picture of what it truly means when the priest says to us during the sacrament of Confirmation, “Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit.â€
The Lord wants that for all of us, and He gives that gift to us freely. Mother Teresa cooperated with the Holy Spirit and allowed those graces to live within her and guided her in becoming a radical disciple. We are all called to be radical disciples of Jesus. How we do that may not look the same as it did for Mother Teresa, but we all have a responsibility to cooperate with the gifts of the Holy Spirit that have been uniquely written upon each of our hearts.
It is reported that Mother Teresa began her day with the following prayer.
Help me to spread Thy fragrance everywhere I go.  Flood my soul with Thy spirit and love.  Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that all my life may only be a radiance of Thine.
Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Thy presence in my soul.  Let them look up and see no longer me but only Jesus.  Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as You shine, so to shine as to be a light to others.
Talk about radically committed to being a disciple for Jesus day in and day out. May we all strive to be so radical!
