The Greatest Miracle opens in theaters December 9
At Mass, we pray in the midst of thousands of angels. St. John Chrysostom states that “When Mass is being celebrated, the sanctuary is filled with countless angels who adore the Divine Victim immolated on the altar. Beside the guardian angels of the faithful who are present, thousands of heavenly spirits assist at Mass, reverently worshipping their Lord and God.â€
How powerful and what a gift we have in the sacred Mass! Hard to imagine it could be the backdrop for a 3D-animated film . . . but it is now!
In The Greatest Miracle, opening December 9 in limited release around the country, producer Pablo Jose Barroso and Dos Corazones Productions bring to life a story of hope and faith. The plot revolves around three people who find themselves at the same Catholic Mass. Going to Mass is not new to any of them, but they need assistance to embrace its true meaning. And that guidance comes from their guardian angels who help each understand the struggle between good and evil and the miraculous triumph of faith that manifests itself in every celebration of the Eucharist.
The Greatest Miracle is directed by Bruce M. Morris, the visual writer of the animated hits Pocahontas and Hercules, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his work on 2009’s The Princess and the Frog.
The Most Revered David L. Ricken, Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay, WI, said of The Greatest Miracle:
“The beautifully animated piece takes a unique look at the Mass, using the revelation of saints and holy persons in a way that helps us better grasp the spiritual forces at play in our daily lives…It is my sincerest hope that this film will deepen our understanding and appreciation for the gift of the Eucharist, the source and summit of our Faith.â€Tim Drake also has an excellent review of The Greatest Miracle over at National Catholic Register, including a few thoughts on the film from his children. The Greatest Miracle opens December 9 on 3D screens in 14 states. A full list of theaters is posted on the film’s website.
