Given today is the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and patronal feast of the United States of America, thought it would be a good opporutnity to give a shout-out to my friend Angie who handcrafts many Marian-centric jewelry items and sells them at Little Charmers.
I have and wear this Madonna & Child necklace often. I am frequently asked about it which then opens the door for “gentle catechesis” especially with non-Catholic friends who are curious to know more about the Catholic Church’s teaching on Mary’s role in salvation history. This necklace features an image from a painting entitled Madonna and Child with Bird. Dating to around 1765, the painting is attributed to Ignacio Chacón — an artist active around 1745 to 1775 in Cuzco, Peru.
A cool feature Angie provides for a lot of her jewelry items is personalized customization. For example, shown here on the back of the necklace is part of the Magnificat prayer. You can substitute any Marian phrase or bible quote near and dear to your heart.
In addition to this Madonna & Child necklace, Little Charmers provides other faith-based jewelry such as rosary bracelets for adult and children. Check out the website — you might find some gift ideas and support a Catholic artisan to boot.
