Since becoming involved in Catholic new media, I have become acquainted with a good number of inspiring Catholics who have captivating faith stories. One such person is Bonnie Engstrom — she and I met at the Behold Conference in Peoria, Illinois a handful of weeks ago. Bonnie and her husband Travis are intimately involved in the beatification efforts for Archbishop Fulton Sheen. Maybe you’ve heard their story? It blew me away. It goes something like this:
On September 16, 2010, Bonnie and Travis Engstrom’s son, James Fulton, was delivered stillborn at home. CPR was administered, 911 was called, James was transported to a hospital, and after 61 minutes of being without a pulse — just as the doctors were prepared to call time of death — James Fulton came back to life.
Throughout this trauma, the Engstroms and a cadre of prayer warriors asked for a miraculous full restoration through the intercession of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, their child’s namesake. Believing that God worked a miracle on their son, the Engstroms contacted the Sheen Foundation who then opened an investigative tribunal into the alleged miracle.
Central Iowa readers: there is more to this story, and you have the opportunity to hear it this Saturday, April 28 when Bonnie shares via video during The Bishop Sheen Event produced by Karen & Tom Quiner of Breakthrough Productions (click here for a flyer). The event will also consist of:

The first miracle put forth for Sheen’s cause came from my parish! It was a lady who was on her death bed. Her husband prayed a novena to Archbishop Sheen and she recovered. No one could explain how. The funny thing was that he died a year later.
