Catholic Stand: Lent, Holy Water, Baptism and Infants

CatholicStandPopeWe have joined the crew at Catholic Stand, a website dedicated to providing perspectives and education on Church teachings.

We will contribute one column per month. Sometimes it’ll be a jointly written post; other times one of us may go solo. Regardless, we Schmidts are responsible for submitting an article for the third Saturday of each month.

Our inaugural post covers a range of topics: the practice of draining holy water fonts during Lent (stop it!), conferring the Sacrament of Baptism during Lent (do it!), and the importance of celebrating Baptism soon after a child is born.

From the post:

Parents are obliged to see that their infants are baptized within the first few weeks. As soon as possible after the birth, indeed even before it, they are to approach the parish priest to ask for the sacrament for their child, and to be themselves duly prepared for it. (Can. 867 §1)

What!?! I was with you. I thought we couldn’t baptize during Lent. Mary was a month older than Jude! Oh, let’s hope they forgive us!
