Studies by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists indicate that approximately 1 in 6 “clinically recognized†pregnancies result in miscarriage. Accordingly, most of society has either direct or indirect experience with a miscarriage. Indeed, the topic touches a nerve with people who knew others who had suffered miscarriages but didn’t know how to help them.
Does your diocese or parish offer a healing Mass for those who have suffered perinatal loss (miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, and infant death)? This week on Catholic Women Now, Julie Nelson and I welcome our very own Joel Schmidt who with Adam Storey, director of our diocesan Marriage and Family Life Office, has worked to initiate such a Mass. Maria Campbell, parishioner at All Saints Catholic Church, Des Moines, also joins us instudio, and she eloquently shares her experiences with pregnancy and infant loss.
Catholic Women Now, produced by Iowa Catholic Radio, is heard in central Iowa on 1150 AM, 88.5 and 94.5 FM. Not in central Iowa? Stream online via ChristianCast and on mobile devices through the TuneIn radio app.

Thank you for taking the time to talk about this oh-so-important topic. Also, what a small blogging world! Maria has become one of my blogging friends through a mutual friend, and I didn’t realize you two were buddies, too! Such a small, wonderful world!
