2014 Word Of The Year

One word.

Can one little word have a big impact on my life? I’m not completely sure, but I remain optimistic.

One word — invite it into my life.

One word — follow where it leads.

One little word.

As I’ve pondered these past few weeks about areas in my life where serious growth is desired, in some cases severely needed, one word has continued to rise to the top. It actually seems to have chosen me.

The word? STEWARDSHIP.

Stewardship

Stewardship is an expression of discipleship and carries with it specific actions. Actions that have the power to change how we understand and live out our lives. Stewardship is the responsible tending of that which God has entrusted to me.

As I’ve sat with the word for several days now, I’m finding areas that need some specific tending.

~ Protecting and caring for my body.

~ Responsibly (co)managing Das Schmidt Haus, my domestic church.

~ Caring for the friendships God has placed in my life.

~ Sharing generously of the gifts and resources God has given me.

I’m anxious to begin my journey with my One Little Word, to define it, explore it, pray with it, follow it, struggle with it, and ultimately celebrate it.

“Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Now it is of course required of stewards that they be found trustworthy” (1 Corinthians 4: 1-2).

Are you journeying with a particular word in 2014? If so, here’s to the journey.
