Come, let us climb the mountain of the Lord
Now this is inspiration!
A group of cancer survivors and caregivers are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro as part of Above and Beyond Cancer. A group of 40+ (including Msgr. Frank Bognanno, pastor of Christ the King Parish) left Des Moines, Iowa in early January to climb the African mountain. This truly is an amazing journey for people who have heard those dreaded words, “You have cancer.” Personal growth can come from adversity, and these great cancer survivors are demonstrating that to the world — there is life after a cancer diagnoses!
Above & Beyond Cancer is a public charity that provides adventure-based programs to cancer survivors and their caregivers. This climb is organized and led by Dr. Richard Deming, Medical Director of the Mercy Cancer Center and Mercy Cancer Center Radiation Oncology of Des Moines. You can follow their trek up the mountain both on Above & Beyond Cancer’s website and Mercy’s Facebook page.
Additionally, 1150 KWKY Catholic Radio is airing a 30-minute radio broadcast with Dr. Richard Deming and Msgr. Frank Bognanno from Mount Kilimanjaro. The broadcast also features in-studio guests Matt Meyer, whose father is on the climb and Theresa Britt, cancer survivor and member of the team that climbed Mount Everest in April 2011.
Tune in during one of these times to hear about this amazing journey. Central Iowans can listen on 1150 AM radio; out-of-area listeners can stream KWKY programming online.
